Colors

fleurThe colors selected for our Unity of Metairie website are a bit unconventional, but that’s no accident. Our spiritual family is closely aligned with the New Orleans metro area or “The Big Easy,” as locals affectionately know it. This is the place famous for café au lait, jazz, great spicy food, a laid-back lifestyle and world-famous Mardi Gras.

The traditional colors of Mardi Gras were selected in 1872 to honor a visiting Russian Grand Duke – Alexis Alexandrovich Romanoff (whose house colors were purple, green and gold).  In 1892 the Rex organization selected “Symbolism of Colors” as their inaugural parade theme, where purple represented justice; green represented faith and gold represented power.

Over time, purple, green and gold became the official colors of Mardi Gras. We intentionally selected these colors when designing our website to celebrate the energy, fun and passion of our unique hometown culture and Unity of Metairie. Join us as we honor all religions, paths and lifestyles, as only those in New Orleans know how.

“Laissez les bon temps rouler” … Let the good times roll at Unity of Metairie!
